Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure a detection for the minimum loop via a small-scale circuit, by realizing a simultaneous counting of the loop number from both the character pattern and the thinned pattern of the smoothed character pattern.

CONSTITUTION: The smoothing process circuit 100 supplies the pattern of the character pattern memory 70 and then delivers the smoothed character to the character pattern memory 80. The line thinning circuit 110 supplies the pattern in the memory 80 and then converts it into a line-width pattern to deliver it to the thinned pattern memory 90. The branch point counting circuit 100 and the crosspoint counting circuit 150 use the mask which detects each point and then gives an access to the memory 90 to count the number of points. The loop number computer circuit 170 supplies each output of the counting circuits 140, 150 and 160 which count the branch points, the crosspoints and the end points respectively to perform the counting process and then deliver the loop number. The comparator 180 delivers the signal in case no coincidence of output is obtained between the loop counting circuit 130 and the circuit 170.
