Abstract
PURPOSE: To protect a torch from collision with a work without fail at the time of their abnormal approaching by detecting an electrical state of a conducting material which is equipped on an outer surface of a main body of torch, insulated from it, and impressed with voltage for detection, wherein a torch is controlled in its relative position to a work.
CONSTITUTION: A conducting material 108 is mounted on an outer periphery of a main body 101 of a torch 3 through an insulating material 107 as an intermediate. In sensing, automatic welding, or manual operation, a switch 201 (e) is always closed to impress the conducting material 108 with voltage for detecting an abnormal approaching. In the working of an automatic welding machine, when a torch 3 abnormally approaches a protruding part W1 of work W, electricity passes through between the conducting material 108 and protruding part W1 and is discharged, so the variation in voltage or current is detected by a electrical state detecting circuit 202b. Each driving source of a welding device is stopped by the control means 5 through the signal "turn on electricity" from an output circuit 202d of detecting electrical state. By this means, even though spatter is filled up between a torch body and a tip, there will be no detection shown as a state of turning on electricity.
