Abstract

PURPOSE:To economically treat BOG (boil-off gas produced in LNG storage tanks) and to utilize the product as city gas, by adding a hydrocarbon mixture to the BOG and thereafter performing heat exchange between the resulting mixture and cooling LNG. CONSTITUTION:BOG produced in a LNG (liquefied natural gas) storage tank 1 is recovered via a line 2 and compressed to about 3 atm by a compressor 3. To the compressed gas a hydrocarbon mixture such as a mixture of ethane, propane or butane is added from an addition line 4'. Then, the resulting mixture at about -68 deg.C is introduced to a heat exchanger 5, where the mixture is cooled by heat exchange between the mixture and LNG at about -162 deg.C supplied from the tank 1 by a pump 6. The liquefied BOG at about -145 deg.C is compressed to about 80atm by a pump 7 and mixed with the cooling LNG compressed by a pump 10. The final mixture is gasified in a vaporizer 11 and supplied as fuel gas (city gas) from a line 12.
