Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the titled heat utilization by applying heat generated from a high temp. gas furnace to methane reforming reaction with steam through He gas to produce a hot synthetic gas consisting of H2, CO and CO2, converting part of the gas into methane, and purifying the remainder to obtain ordinary temp. H2.
CONSTITUTION: Heat energy of the primary He loop 2 attached to high temp. gas furnace 1 is transferred to the secondary He loop 5 through intermediate heat exchanger 3, and using this heat energy methane is reformed with steam to produce a hot synthetic gas consisting of H2, CO and CO2. This hot gas is used to generate steam and adjusted to ordinary temp. Part of the synthetic gas is fed to methanation reactor 12, and the remainder is purified with H2 purifier 11b to produce ordinary temp. H2, which is then supplied to hydrorefining and hydrocracking apparatus 16 of a petroleum refining plant. Thus, by transporting ordinary temp. hydrogen to a petroleum refining apparatus, conventional high temp. equipment is made unnecessary.
