Abstract
PURPOSE: To high accurately detect the coil's terminal end without contacting with the coil, by taking the signal corresponding to the shadow made by the thickness of the steel material out of the picture signal of the camera.
CONSTITUTION: The flotage of the terminal end 11 of the coil 10 and the shadow of the thickness of steel material made by the irradiation from the light source 13 are introduced as the picture signal into the signal processing circuit by the TV camera 12. The picture signal equivalent to a horizontal scanning line, being sampled by the picture signal sampling circuit 21, are binary coded by the binary coding circuit 22, so as to make the shadow to be the black signal and to make the coil's surface to be the white signal; after that, this picture signal is sent to the breadth detecting circuit 24 through the noise damping circuit 23. This breadth detecting circuit 24 detects the breadth against the black signal, and permits the black signal of only the specified size to pass over. The black signal passed over the breadth detecting circuit 24 is counted by the counting circuit 25, and is sent to the judging circuit 26; when the judgement is made as the black signal disappears after lasting for the specified length, the pass signal is produced to inform of the pass of the coil's terminal end 11.
