Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the change in optical transmission losses even when temperature change is large in a jelly filled optical fiber by using the jelly intimate mixture which is ≤8.0% in volume shrinkage at 85° down to -20°C, and ranges from 50W140 in consistency at room temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A jelly filled optical fiber consisting of plastic yarns 5, jelly intimate mixture 6, upper winding tapes 7, LAP sheath 8, and a central tension member 9 is made by using optical fiber cores 4 each comprising an optical fiber 1, a silicon resin layer 2 and a nylon 12 covering layer. The jelly intimate mixture 6 comprises polybutene, white vaseline, ACPE, paraffin, microcrystalline wax or low molecular weight hydrocarbon or the combination of two or more kinds thereof, is ≤8.0% in volume shrinkage at 85° down to -20°C and ranges from 50W140 in consistency at ordinary temperature. Thereby, the change in losses may be decreased even when temperature change is large.
