Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent powder and grain mixture from being carried away with the waste water of washing by precoating the powder and grains on filter media through recirculation of the cleaning liquid having been discharged by being passed through the filter media provided at the cleaning liquid discharge port in the lower part of a cleaning vessel.
CONSTITUTION: The powder and granular materials to be cleaned, such as active carbon, in a cleaning vessel 1, are cleaned by the action of the cleaning water supplied through a pipeline 2 and an agitating machine 3. Thence, the cleaning water passes through the filter media 4, flows out from a cleaning liquid discharge port 5, is boosted by a pump 6, and is again circulated to the vessel 1 via a valve 7. In the initial stage of this circulation, the small grain size materials to be cleaned are arrested by the mesh of the filter media 4 and stick on the surfaces of the filter media thereby forming a precoating layer. In the process of repeating said circulation, the materials of subsequently larger grain sizes are collected by the precoating layer and the solids are allowed to precipitate on the bottom of the vessel 1. After the absence of any material to be cleaned in the circulating cleaning liquid is checked with the sample from a take-out port 12, the valves 7, 9 are closed and opened to feed the waste cleaning liquid into a storage tank 14.
