Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an amorphous alloy undergoing a slight change with the passage of time by spraying a molten alloy consisting of one or more among Fe, Co and Ni, Zr and/or Hf, and a rare earth element onto the surface of a roll from a nozzle protected in a specified atmosphere and solidifying the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy consisting of 5W30 atomic% in total of Zr and/or Hf and one or more kinds of rare earth elements including Y and the balance essentially one or more among Fe, Co and Ni (the total amount of Fe and Co is ≥ 50% and the total amount of metalloids or nonmetallic elements is <10%) is sprayed onto the surface of a roll from a nozzle and solidified by rapid cooling. At this time, the nozzle is protected in a vacuum, an inert atmosphere or a reducing atmosphere at least before spraying the molten alloy. The <10% metalloid content results in a slighter deterioration in the characteristics of the molten alloy, and an amorphous metal alloy is obtd. having a high crystallization temp. and undergoing a slight change in the magnetic characteristics, etc. with the passage of time.
