Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a meso-phase dope which exhibits a stable meso-phase character and is useful for the production of a film and a fiber having dynamically excellent properties, by a method wherein a cellulose ether is added in an aq. soln. contg. an inorg. acid.
CONSTITUTION: At least 10wt% of a cellulose ether is added in an ag. soln. soln. contg. at least 5wt% of an inorg. acid to obtain a dope which exhibits a meso-phase character without applying hydrodynamical external force. Examples of the cellulose ethers used are ethyl cellulose, cyanoethyl cellulose, carboxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose and the like. Examples of the inorg. acidsused are nitric acide, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, chloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, perchloric acid, and the like. A preferred dope is one in which cyanoethyl cellulose as the cellulose ether and nitric acid as the inorg. acid are used.
