Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture the film pertinent to characteristic of dimensional stability, resistance to heat and mechanical property by a method wherein an annular film extruded from an annular slit is expanded and orientated into a draw direction concurrently in the manufacturing of the film of polyester having a property to form an optically anisotropic melt. CONSTITUTION:Polyester having a property to form an optically anisotropic melt (polyester of which molten polymer has a property to pass polarized light in an optical system provided with a polarizer intersecting in 90 deg.) is molten and extruded from an annular slit (a gap of the slit is about 0.01-10mm.) to form an annular film. Successively, it is expanded at the temperature of the secondary transition point of the polyester of higher (a draw ratio in an orthogonal direction to an axis of a machine; about 1.2 times or more) and is orientated concurrently into a draw direction (a draw ratio in a direction of the axis of the machine; about 2 times or more) to form the film.
