Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for an insecticide, a germicide and a lubricating oil, etc. in high purity and yield, by chlorinating an O,O-dialkyl phosphorodithioate with a specific proportion of chlorine in the presence of an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R is 1W3C alkyl) is chlorinated with chlorine in a molar amount of 1.45W1.70 times that of the compound of formula I in the presence of 3mol% or less, based on one mole the compound of formula I, an alcohol to give the titled compound of formula II. Preferably, an alcohol corresponding to the alkyl group in the compound of formula I is used as the alcohol. The proportions of the alcohol and chlorine permit the sharp reduction in content of an O-alkyl phosphorodichloridothioate which is an impurity in the aimed compound without reducing the yield of the aimed compound.
