Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A protein, which is capable of indicating a malignant tumor, present in the normal human serum but increases the concentration thereof in blood specifically in the case of cancer, has the ability to combine with deoxyribonucleic acid and a roughly estimated molecular weight of 64,000 determined by electrophoresis with sodium dodecylsulfate-acrylamide gels, and contains a saccharide as a constituent factor. The isoelectric point: pH4.0W4.8. UV spectrum: maximum absorption at 280nm; ratio of absorbances at 280nm/260nm: 1.58.
USE: An indication for early diagnosis of malignant tumor. The simple quantitative analysis with direct test serum is possible as a cancer diagnosis due to no cross reaction with human C3 (the third complement component) and C3DP. The rabbit antibody can be readily prepared.
PROCESS: Serum or ascites of normal subject or patients with cancer are fractionated by DEAE-Sephadex etc., and subjected to salting out in combination to give the aimed protein.
