Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a bumper action when coming into collision and also to save a cost and lighten the body, by a method wherein a bumper member, provided with perforations in a longitudinal direction in an elastic outer layer made from synthetic resin, is attached to form a bumper.
CONSTITUTION: A bumper member 1 is placed in front of a base sheet 2 whereon fixture metals are provided, and covering members 8 are secured on opposite ends of the bumper member 1. The bumper member 1 is provided with an elastic outer layer 3 which is formed such that synthetic resin continuously extruded by an extrusion-molding is cut to a given length, and with a large number of circular perforations perforating the inside of the outer layer 3, i.e., a central portion 4 thereof. Projections 6, which are embracedly fitted with an embracing unit 7 formed by bending an upper and a lower edge of the base sheet 2, are formed at an upper and a lower portion of a base portion of the bumper member 1. The perforations 5 are blocked with said covering members 8 to seal air and other gaseous matters into the inside thereof.
