Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a photoconductive polymer useful for a sensitized material for electrophotography, photo elements, etc., having improved properties as a photoconductive material, by subjecting a dimer of N-vinylcarbazole to condensation polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: N-vinylcarbazole is dimerized to give 1-trans-1,2-dicarbazolylcyclobutane, into which a functional group shown by X (X is OH, etc.) is introduced. The prepared compound is reacted with a compound, e.g., hexamethylenedicarboxylic acid, etc., having two functional groups shown by the formula Y (Y is COOH, etc.), condensing with the above-mentioned X, to give the desired photoconductive polymer having a bonded group shown by the formula Z (Z is ester, etc.) obtained from the above-mentioned X and Y, and a viscosity average molecular weight shown by the formula preferably 10,000W100,000.
