Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled dispersion, by adding an aromatic hydrocarbon and a lower alcohol to a water-containing pigment dispersion composed of wet pigment cake and a vehicle, and removing water from the mixture by azeotropic distillation.
CONSTITUTION: The titled dispersion is obtained by (1) mixing (A) a water- containing concentrated pigment dispersion prepared by removing the free water from the dispersion obtained by flushing wet pigment cake and a vehicle (e.g. rosin-modified maleic acid resin) with (B) an aromatic hydrocarbon in an amount necessary to remove the water in the dispersion completely by azeotropic distillation and 25W500wt%, based on the pigment, of a lower alcohol and (2) heating the resulting homogeneous slurry at ≤90°C under reduced pressure to remove the residual water and the added aromatic hydrocarbon and the lower alcohol as an azeotropic mixture.
EFFECT: The dispersion is useful as a paint or ink free from coagulated pigment particles, having excellent coloring power, gloss, and color purity, and easily dispersible by simple stirring before use.
