Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily transform, the basic structure of cast iron into ferrite structure by a method wherein a cast iron after treatment of the first stage graphitization is gradually cooled at a specific cooling speed. CONSTITUTION:A cast iron is subject to the first stage graphitization treatment, covered with an insulating material, and gradually cooled at a cooling speed below 900 deg.C/hr so that it is transformed into ferrite structure without the need for the second graphitization treatment. Typically, a cast iron mounting device 6 is used to mount a work cast iron 10 on a tray 12 and a ferrite annealing is conducted in the first stage graphitization furnace 1. As soon as the cast iron 10 is taken out at the discharge location 2, it is placed in a gradual-cooling cover device 5 and a gradual cooling cover 11 is mounted onto the tray 12. Then, a conveyor mechanism 4 is used to cool it at a speed of less than 900 deg.C/hr. A detacher 7 is used to remove the cover 11 which is returned to the original position by a return conveyor 4'. The ferrite-transformed cast iron 9 is discharged by a product taking out device 8. The process thus ensures structuring of ferrite base.
