Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the total stock of granular raw material such as coke in a storage tank accurately and determine a condition of stock in three dimensions by a method wherein a sensor transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves is scanned. CONSTITUTION:The displacement of angles in the X-axis and Y-axis directions of a sensor supporting body 4 is controlled by means of X-axis and Y-axis angle controlling servo-devices 10, 12, and the inside of a storage tank 1 is scanned by means of a sensor 5 transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves. Signals displaying the angles in the X-axis and Y-axis directions are inputted to a signal processing portion 14, ultrasonic pulses are transmitted onto the surface of raw material 2 from the sensor 5 at the angles, and the ultrasonic pulses reflected from the surface are received by means of the sensor 5. Distance signals obtained from the receiving signals are inputted to the signal processing portion 14 by means of a sensor controlling portion 6, and the sensor 5 is displaced up to a measuring location of the next angles. Thus, the sensor 5 is scanned, and the total stock, etc. of the raw material 2 in the storage tank 1 are calculated from measuring results which the signal processing portion 14 scans.
