Abstract
PURPOSE:To cause a fluorescent lamp to emit red light from its ends when a source voltage drops by sealing neon gas in the tube. CONSTITUTION:Neon gas is sealed in a tube. A starter lamp is operated and a fluorescent lamp is started by switching on a source. When, mercury sealed in the tube is not yet evaporated due to a low temperature of the tube wall, and electrons in the tube are generated principally form ionization of a sealed rare gas of Ne atoms. Accordingly the fluorescent lamp emits red light. As the discharge continues, the ionization and activation are contributed by mercury atoms and the fluorescent lamp emits white light.
