Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a joint sheet which is inexpensive and elastic and has great strength, by a method wherein part of an asbestos fiber is replaced with an org. fiber.
CONSTITUTION: An org. fiber (pref. a polyester long fiber) is added to an asbestos fiber which is main material. A rubber material, a vulcanizing agent, an accelerating agent, an antioxidant, a filler, a solvent, etc. are blended with the mixt. The resulting blend is kneaded, heated and pressed between rollers to prepare an asbestos joint sheet. When an asbestos long fiber is used, there is obtd a joint sheet which has great strength and is highly elastic. Since the asbestos long fiber is expensive, the joint sheet produced is necessarily expensive. But, by using an inexpensive asbestos short fiber and a high-molecular org. long fiber which is readily available, the joint sheet having excellent characteristics can be produced at low cost.
