Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically detect the quantity of water on the surface of aggregate continuously and with high accuracy by detecting gamma ray and fast neutron ray transmitted through the aggregate within a hopper gate. CONSTITUTION:The fast neutron ray radiated from a source 2 of the fast neutron is reduced in speed and diffused during its transmission through the aggregate, and the quantity of the transmitted neutron ray detected by a detecting device 6 is controlled by the quantity of water contained in the aggregate. Meanwhile, the gamma ray radiated from a source 1 of the gamma ray is absorbed during its transmission through the aggregate, and the quantity of the transmitted gamma ray detected by a detecting device 5 is controlled by the density of the aggregate. In an operating-processing part 9, the quantity of water and the density thereof are calculated from the standard counting rate of the neutron and gamma rays outputted from the source part 7 and the counting rates of transmitted neutron and gamma rays outputted from the detecting part 8, and further the rate of absorption of the aggregate is inputted beforehand through programming, whereby the quantity of water on the surface of the aggregate can be detected antomatically, continuously and with high precision.
