Abstract

PURPOSE: To correct the amount of EGR properly by constituting an exhaust gas recirculation system by a pair of diaphragms respectively biased in the opposing directions so that the differential movements of these diaphragms can be effectively used for correction of EGR amount.
CONSTITUTION: In an internal combustion engine, an intake pipe and an exhaust pipe are communicated with each other through a recirculation passages 17 and 18 including an exhaust gas recirculation system A, which enables a recirculation of a part of exhaust gas into an intake system. The system A includes the first diaphragm 2 and the second diaphragm 7 which cooperates with the first diaphragm 2 through casings 6 and 8. A vacuum working chamber 30 of the first diaphragm 2 is transmitted with the intake vacuum immediately upstream of a throttle valve 25 whereas a vacuum working chamber 40 of the second diaphragm 7 is transmitted with the vacuum of an intake manifold 26. These two diaphragms 2 and 7 are moved in the opposite directions. The vacuum working chamber 30 is provided with a controller which transmits vacuum into the chamber 30 when the temperature of the engine or the number of engine revolutions exceeds a predetermined value.
