Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a plant growth suppressing agent for paddy-rice plant, wheat, etc. having excellent effect to suppress the growth of plants without damaging the plants, by the use of a chloroacetamide derivative as an effective component.
CONSTITUTION: A plant growth suppressing agent containing as an effective component, a chloroacetamide derivative of formula (n is 2 or 3) such as chloro-N- (3',5'-dimethylbenzyl)acetamide, chloro-N-(2',4',6'-trimethylbenzyl)acetamide, etc. The compound of formula can be prepared by reacting chloroacetyl chloride with the corresponding methyl-substituted benzylamine in 1,2-dichloroethane containing NaOH under ice cooling. The compound is applied to the plant as it is or by diluting with a diluent to a proper concentration. If necessary, it is mixed with an adjuvant such as a spreader, fixing agent, etc., or combined with an insecticide, fertilizer, etc.
