Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a nonmagnetic alloy having high strength by hardening a Cu-Fe-Ni-Al-Mn alloy having a specified composition followed by tempering.
CONSTITUTION: A Cu alloy consisting of 4.0W6.0% Fe, 4.0W6.0% Ni, 8.5W11.5% Al, 0.5W4.5% Mn and the balance Cu and having quantitative relation satisfying Al≥-0.6Mn+11.2 between the Al and Mn contents is refined in a high frequency melting furnace, and the molten metal is cast in a metal mold. The resulting ingot is heated to 800W950°C, held at the temp. for about 1hr, water-hardened, tempered at 480W600°C, and air-cooled to room temp. to obtain a nonmagnetic Cu alloy having ≤1.2 permeability and ≥90kg/mm2 tensile strength. This alloy is used as a material for a nonmagnetic nonspark tool, the hobnails of safety shoes for working in a magnetic field, the end rings of a turbine generator or an induction motor, etc.
