Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a fine cut surface of a special steel slab manufactured by a continuous casting technique by responding a cutting blade to the configuration of the steel slab which is detected by a feeler-roller rotating on the slab surface as kept in a predetermined position and transferring only the cutting blade in the lateral direction.
CONSTITUTION: The feeler roller 18 rotates in contact with the surface A preliminarily prepared of the steel plate as kept in a predetermined position. The feeler roller 18 follows the configuration of the surface A and detects out deformations thereon. The cutting blade 12 responds to the detected results and cuts off the deformations. When the cutting is carried out for a predetermined period of time, the feeler roller is transferred onto another deformed surface to repeat the profile-cutting operation in the same way.
