Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable optical fiber strands or core wires to be easily taken out without damage by providing plural cuts along the longitudinal direction at a part of a protective covering material and putting the optical fiber strands or core wires on the inner side of the cuts.
CONSTITUTION: A material having suitable softness and restoration characteristic such as polyvinyl chloride is used for a protecting covering 3 and plural cuts 4 are provided along its longitudinal direction. The gap of each cut 4 is made slightly smaller than the diameter of an optical fiber strand or core wire 2' and the optical fiber strands 2' and protective covering 3 are so constituted as not to make close contact, whereby the optical fiber strands or core wires 2' are easily taken out from the cuts 4 without using any tool.
