Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the titled optical fiber of wave-guide structure having a low refractive index clad layer by a method wherein a specific core material of liquid state is sealed in a clad material and is formed into a wire. CONSTITUTION:A core material 2 consisting of an infrared material selected from chalcogenide, halide, Si and Ge is lined on the inner wall of a clad material 1 which softens at the melting point of a core material such as Pyrex glass or silicate glass. The top opening of the clad material 1 is connected to the supply inlet 3 of Ar gas, and the internal of the clad material 1 is made a nonoxidizing atmosphere. The vertical-drive mechanism 4 is used to send the clad material 21 into the heating furnace 5. There, the clad material 1 is softened by heating, the core material 2 is made into a liquid state, and the wiring capstan 6 and winder 7 are used to make a wire and wind it up.
