Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 1-acyl-3-(3,5-dihalogenophenyl)hydantoin shown by the formula I (X is halogen; R1 is lower alkenylene; R2 is alkyl; n is 0 or 1).
EXAMPLE: 1-(β-Methoxycarbonylacryloyl)-3-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)hydantoin.
USE: A fungicide for agriculture and gardening. Having controlling action on various blights of farm products, strong antifungal action on resistant fungi, and low toxicity to men and beasts. Effective against black spot of Japanese pears, scab of apples, melanose of citrus, brown rot of peaches, anthracnose of grapes, etc.
PROCESS: A 3-(3,5-dihalogenophenyl)hydantoin shown by the formula II (X is halogen) is reacted with a carboxylic acid shown by the formula III or its reactive derivative to give a compound shown by the formula I.
