Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent interlocking members from colliding with each other and also to decrease noises by preventing rotations according to inertia force of a rotary shaft of a starting motor for a plunging starter.
CONSTITUTION: From turning a starting switch on, an electromagnet 58 attracts a pressure plate 50 rightward against a spring 52 to detach it from a friction plate 46. A starting motor 10 is then driven simultaneously, and rotations of its output shaft 16 are transferred to an interlocking member 32 through a gear 16 and a reduction mechanism 12. Then the interlocking member 32 moves rightward to engage with an interlocking member 28, and thus a crankshaft 14 is rotated. When the starting switch is turned off after that, the plate 50 is left free, pressed leftward by the spring 52 and then interlocked with the friction plate 46, thus stopping the rotary shaft 16 quickly according to a friction force working then.
