Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide titled polyester having excellent transparency and slidability and being suitable as a magnetic tape material, by adding Al2O3-containing pyrogenic silica fine particles to the reaction system of polyester at any stage prior to completion of polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: In producing a polyester form (A) terephthalic acid or an esterifiable derivative thereof and (B) a glycol selected from ethylene glycol and 1,4- butanediol or an esterifiable derivative thereof, titled polyester is obtained by adding (C) 0.05W4wt%, based on the resulting polyester, of aluminum oxide-containing pyrogenic silica particles, alumium oxide content 0.1W5wt%, average diameter of primary particles ≤100mμ, to the reaction mixture at any stage prior to completion of polyester polymerization and then bringing the reaction to completion.
