Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare vinylidene chloride in high selectivity, and to utilize ammonium chloride in high efficiency, by subjecting vinyl chloride to oxidative chlorination using ammonium chloride as a chlorinating agent, reacting resulting compounds with each other, and recycling the produced ammonium chloride to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: 1,1,2-Trichloroethane and ammonia are produced by the catalytic reaction of vinyl chloride with ammonium chloride and oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst containing copper (the first step). Vinylidene chloride and ammonium chloride are prepared by reacting 1,1,2-trichloroethane with ammonia produced in the first step (the second step). The ammonium chloride obtained in the second step is recycled to the first step (the third step). Vinylidene chloride is prepared from vinyl chloride in high efficiency, with little loss of the chlorine content in the chlorinating agent. Both the first and second steps proceed in high selectivity.
