Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain highly purified dicyclohexylamine, by heat treating crude dicyclohexylamine in the presence of a specific compound.
CONSTITUTION: A preliminarily purified dicyclohexylamine containing a small amount of cyclohexylidene cyclohexylamine as an impurity is heated in the presence of formic acid to obtain highly purified dicyclohexylamine esp. of ≥99.9% purity. Various impurities existing in crude dicyclohexylamine obtained by the reduction of aniline, etc. are easily separated by fractionation. However, a small amount of N-cyclohexylidene cyclohexylamine is difficult to separate by fractionation, because the boiling point of the impurity is close to that of the objective compound. It has been found that the impurity can be reduced quantitatively to dicyclohexylamine by heating in the presence of a small amount of formic acid.
