Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer useful as a plastic material, etc., having high crystallinity, causing no coloring, without requiring a purifying process, by using a highly active catalyst prepared by adding specific amounts of water and carbon disulfide to a reaction product of a Co compound and an organic aluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: 1,3-Butadiene is polymerized by using a catalyst consisting of (A) a cobalt compound (e.g., cobalt octoate, etc.), (B) an organic aluminum compound (e.g., triethyl aluminum, etc.) shown by the formula AlR3 (R is alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl), (C) water, and (D) carbon disulfide in a solvent of halogenated hydrocarbon (e.g., methylene chloride, etc.). In the polymerization, the ingredient C and the ingredient D are added to a solution prepared by reacting the ingredient A with the ingredient B using 0.1W100mol water per mole ingredient B in the presence or absence of 1,3-butadiene to give a catalyst and the polymerization is carried out, to give the desired polymer.
