Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a new zeolite catalyst containing Ti or V ions as exchangeable cation, and giving a highly stereoregular olefin polymer having a high polymerization degree without using an activator such as an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: A sodium-type Y-zeolite and an aqueous solution containing titanium ion or vanadium ion are mixed under nitrogen atmosphere and reacted at room temperature. The solid portion is separated by filtration, and ion-exchange treatment with titanium ion or vanadium ion is repeated several times. The resultant solid is separated, washed and dried to give a zeolite catalyst in which the exchangeable cation is titanium or vanadium. Stereoregular high polymers are prepared by polymerizing olefins, e.g. propylene, etc., in the presence of the catalyst.
