Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible back washing at low costs without requiring any washing water storage tank at the time of backwashing arbitrary one of 3 or more juxtaposed downward flow type filter apparatus, by using the filtrate of the other filter apparatus which is made higher in the rate of filtering than usual.
CONSTITUTION: In ordinary filter operation, raw water is supplied via an inflow pipe 3 to downward type filter apparatus 1aW1c. The raw water is filtered by filter media 2aW2c and the filtrate is sent to the next process through piping 7. If clogging occurs in the filter media 2c of arbitrary one, for example, apparatus 1c, out of the apparatus 1aW1c, the backwashing of the filter media 2c is performed by closing valves 5c, 5g, 5h, 5i respectively, increasing the motor rotating speed of a pump 4 to supply the raw water of an amount more than usual one to the apparatus 1a, 1b, and supplying the filtrate thereof via valves 5d, 5e, to the apparatus 1c. The waste water of washing is discharged to the outside from the valve 5j.
