Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent tuyere clogging by large-grain-size coolants and let smooth preheating of the coolants in the converter be effected by charging the coolants having shape functions of pebble beds or the like into the converter prior to charging of the large-grain-size coolants into the converter at the preheating of the coolants in the converter. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of bottom blowing tuyeres 2 of a converter are disposed in the form of being penetrated through converter bottom refractory materials 1. A pebble bed 3 is formed in the converter bottom portion by the small-grain-size coolants having beforehand been sized. Large-grain-size coolants such as slab cut piece alloy iron (Fe-Cr, Fe-Ni or the like) are lamineted on this bed 3. As a result of this, the mixed fluid of the hydrocarbon-base fluid and pure oxygen discharged from the tuyeres 2 is let to ascend toward the converter port direction as combustion gas 8 while it is being let to make rapid combustion reaction and preheat the inside of the coolant-packed layers. Hence, the stable operation of refining which prevents the tuyeres 2 from being clogged and does not induce any unmelting phenomenon of the coolants, deviation of the components of molten steel, etc. may be accomplished.
