Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide glass articles with chemical resistance and anticrushing properties by coating the surfaces of the articles with a silane grafted polyolefin.
CONSTITUTION: Polyolefin such as PP or PE and a silane represented by formula RR'SiY2 (where R represents an olefinic unsated. monovalent hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon-oxy group; Y represents a hydrolyzable org. group; and R' represents R or Y) are reacted at ≥140°C in the presence of a compound capable of generating free radicals to obtain a silane grafted polyolefin. This polyolefin grafted with silane is dissolved in a solvent, and the resulting soln. is applied to the surfaces of glass articles.
