Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect the abnormal movement of a carriage easily and correctly by a method wherein a specific position detector is provided within the movable area of the carriage and the amount of the movement of the carriage to the position is compared with the data set beforehand in the printer wherein the feeding of the carriage is conducted.
CONSTITUTION: When the operation to preset the data of the amount of the movement of the carriage is performed in a key input part 24 prior to the printing operation, CPU21 makes the carriage 1 move from the left end side to the right, generates timing signals corresponding to each position of printing characters until the operation bar 15 of the carriage 1 energizes a proximity switch 17, makes the signals count, and presets the count data thus obtained in a RAM23. Next, when the printing operation is performed, it also counts the timing signals for character position when the carriage 1 moves from the left end to the right, compares the count value with the prior preset value at the point of the switch 17 and thus checks up the abnormality of the movement of the carriage.
