Abstract
PURPOSE: To give good display background and achieve the reduction in the thickness of a device by using a porous body contg. Pigments at 1W50 volumes of the volume of porous spaces in the porous spaces in a porous material having a specific mean pore size range and more than specific values of porous space volumes, as an electrolyte-impregnated layer.
CONSTITUTION: In a reflection type electrochromic (EC) display device in particular, a sheetlike object of 0.03W2mm thick, which is 0.1W50μ in mean pore size and in which porous spaces occupy ≥30vol% is made by such a method of using polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene, etc., incoporating a liquid lubricant into, for example, polytetrafluoroethylene unbacked powder, forming this into a sheet by extrusion or the like, removing the lubricant from this sheet by extraction or the like then stretching the sheet. This sheet is immersed in a liquid dispersed with pigments conrg. ≥50vol% TiO2 in an alcohol or the like and it is subjected to necessary times of immersing and drying so that the pigments occupy 1W50vol% the porous spaces, thence this sheet is used for an electrolyte impregnated layer. In this way, the good display color well shielding the ground is obtained.
