Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve sensitivity and resolution cosiderabry, by using one light emitting element at least and many light receiving elements to discriminate distance from the optical path constituted by the light emitting element and a light receiving element which has detected maximum light quantity.
CONSTITUTION: On the optical path between one light emitting element S at least and n-number light receiving elements R, pinhole HS where the irradiation light to the object passes through range finder front P of a distance calculation reference face and pinhole HR where the reflection light from the object passes through front P are provided. Now, if light emitting element S is caused to emit always light to detect the light quantity input to many light receiving elements R by electric scanning, the light quantity becomes maximum in a specific a light receiving element closely connected with existence position of the object. When this specific ligh receiving element is the K-th light receiving element, measured distance D is calculated by expression D=H×L/[W-L+(K-1)×B]. D is expressed by the function of K because H, L, W and B are physical constants peculiar to the range finder, and sensitivity and resolution can be improved considerably by increasing the value of K.
