Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the position of a traveling body by providing an incident-light fiber and by further providing a reflecting plate to one body varying in mutual interval and photodetecting fibers, receiving reflected light from the reflecting plate and leading it to an arithmetic circuit, at the other reference point.
CONSTITUTION: Incident-light fiber 5 to which light from light source 4 is incident at angle α; traveling body 1 is provided to reflecting plate 3 and photodetecting fibers 7 at reference point 6 with each end agreeing with reference point 6. Then, photodetectors 8 are provided being close to the other end of each of photodetecting fibers 7 and photodetection signals from photodetectors 8 are led to distance arithmetic circuit 9. A signal from arithmetic circuit 9 is led to comparing circuit 10 and compared there to set signal 11 and its output signal is supplied to control circuit 12, which operates solenoid valve 13 on the basis of the input signal to switch a pressure circuit for cylinder unit 2, thereby exercising the position of traveling body 1. Consequently, the position of traveling body 1 can continuously be detected by closely arranging continuous photodetecting fibers 7.
