Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a latex for a serological diagnosis reagent, which makes accurate diagnosis possible, by polymerizing styrene in water in the presence of a polyglycerin fatty acid ester by use of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: Styrene is polymerized in water in the presence of a polyglcerin fatty acid ester of the formula [wherein R is a 7W19C alkyl; X is H or -CO(R); n is 2W30] by use of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator. The radical polymerization initiator is a persulfate such as potassium persulfate or ammonium persulfate, azobiscyanovaleric acid, a metal salt thereof, etc., preferably the persulfate. The polyglycerin fatty acid ester is a mono- or diester of a dimer to triacontamer of glycerin, preferably a monoester having a 7W19C alkyl in the acyl group.
