Abstract
PURPOSE: To give a clear decision to the burning state of an engine, by measuring the fluctuation of exhaust pressure within the exhaust manifold at the moment when the engine is started.
CONSTITUTION: The engine 2 that an assembling process has been finished is fixed to the test device 3 by the engine holder 30. The exhaust manifold 109 is pressed to the exhaust manifold attaching part by the hydraulic cylinder, and the engine 2 is started. Then the fluctuation of exhaust gas in the idling mode is detected by the negative pressure measuring device. When this fluctuation of pressure is in a fixed pressure range as shown by the solid line in the figure, the steady burning can be confirmed. And in case the exhaust pressure has a partial disturbance as shown by the broken line, the misfire is caused at some cylinder. Furthermore, when the overall amplitude of the fluctuation of pressure is larger than a fixed pressure range a-b, the timing of ignition or the valve has some defect. In such way, the state of burning can be detected easily for an engine.
