Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the liquid leak proof of a cell, by, prior to hermetically sealing metallic cell case and the terminal, providing a preliminary step to apply a molten glase layer onto the surface of a metallic member used also as a terminal of a negative electrode, said surface being to be bonded to molten glass. CONSTITUTION:In a metallic cell case 1 a generating element 2, for instance, a laminated body of a positive electrode compound 2a mainly composed of silver oxide, separator 2b containing an alkali electrolyte and negative electrode material 2c, is filled to construct a hermetically sealed cell. Said cell case 1 is constructed by welding and joining together a lower case portion 1a and an upper case portion 1b. In the case portion 1b a seal port part 6 is formed by hermetically sealing an electric current collecting lead 3, serving also as a negative electrode terminal, with an annular boss part 1c of said case 1b, and a glass 4. When said seal port part 6 is formed, glass layers 4b are previously constructed on surfaces 3b of the current collecting lead 3, which surfaces 3b are to be applied with molten glass, to obtain a good bonding and sealing with the glass 4.
