Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electric-discharge lamp with a special orientation and brightness distribution which gives an increased illumination in a designated direction, by applying a suspension consisting of a substance which contains a photosensitive substance and is hardened with light, a light- reflecting substance and a solvent to the inner wall of an electric-discharge tube, before the applied suspension is dried. CONSTITUTION:The inner wall of an electric-discharge tube is coated with a suspension consisting of a substance which is hardened with light and contains a photosensitive substance, a light-reflecting substance and a solvent, before the coating of the suspension is dried. The former photosensitive substance contains either a diazo compound or a dichromic compound which are sensitive to lights with a wavelength of 200-450nm, or a cinnamic compound which is sensitive to lights with a wavelength of 200-550nm. After that, light is irradiated over the surface of the dried coating by means of a high-pressure mercury lamp or the like, except for a part of the coating which is in a direction from the center axis of the cylindrical electric-discharge tube and is opened in using the tube. Thus the hardening of the resin that is hardened with light is selectively accelarated. Consequently, the electric-discharge lamp can provide a special orientation and brightness distribution, as well as an increased illumination in a designated direction.
