Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the accuracy of servo control and the recording density, by using the magnetic head consisting of two magnetic heads closed so that the magnetic gaps can be arranged, and obtaining the servo signal of level zero on the desired track. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head 12 consists of two magnetic heads 16, 18 in which the magnetic gaps 15, 17 are located closely to be arranged. The voltage signals V1, V2 obtained from the coils 20, 21 of each magnetic head are respectively fed to the addition circuit 24 and the subtraction circuit 25. The output of the addition circuit 24 is picked up as readout signal. On the other hand, the output V1-V2 of the subtraction circuit 25 is picked up as the servo signal Sc via the filter for only DC component and fed to the servo unit 14. The servo unit 14 performs position control of the magnetic head 12 so that the signal Sc is at zero level after desired track is detected. Thus, the accuracy and recording density of servo control can be increased.
