Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the crevice corrosion of a titanium structure, by placing one or more members among Mo, W, V between the materials at the joining part of the titanium structure thereby forming strong, stable passive coating on the joining surface.
CONSTITUTION: One or more members among Mo, W, V are placed between materials at the joining part of a titanium structure by vapor deposition or melt spraying at a ratio of ≥0.01mg/cm2 joining surface. Or ≥0.0002mg oxide of these metals or ≥0.05mg chloride of these metals per 1cm2 joining surface is also effective. This method makes titanium material passive because of the presence of these metallic ions even in a corrosive soln. of acidic chloride thereby preventing the crevice corrosion effectively.
