Abstract
PURPOSE:To make conference communication or the like via optical fibers, by closely adhering a coupling member to the clad of optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:A protective coating layer 13 of an arbitrary part of optical fiber 10 is removed to expose the outer circumference of the clad 12, and a photocoupler 20 is provided for the clad 12 so that the coupling member 23 can be adhered to the clad 12. A signal from a microphone 31 is amplified at an amplifier 33 and a light emitting element 21 is driven via a hook switch or talk switch 35 to convert the signal into an optical signal, which is incident from the coupling member 23 to the clad 12 and transmitted in clad mode as shown in chain lines. Further, the optical signal transmitted in clad mode is incident from the clad 12 to the coupling member 23, where it is converted into an electric signal at a photodetector 22, and it is amplifier at an amplifier 34 via a hook switch or talk switch 36 to drive a speaker 32.
