Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the malformation or discoloration of the object to be read which is caused by the heat rays, by providing the infrared-ray cutting filter which transmits only the spectral sensitivity property component of the photodetector among the near infrared rays emitted from the illuminating light source.
CONSTITUTION: The mail 2 is illuminated by the illuminating optical system 6 consisting of the illuminating light source 4 and the reflector 5, and the reflected light from the cellophane paper on the mail 2 is received by the receiving optical system 9 consisting of the photodetector 8. In such constitution, the infrared-ray cutting filter 10 is provided in front of the light source 4. The filter 10 transmits only the wavelengths of about 600W1,000mm. In general, the brown or orange envlope, a colored envelope with a window, shows the reflection factor nearly same as a white envelope at about 600W700mm. Accordingly, the same level is obtained for the background value of each envelope with use of the filter 10, and thus the slice level can be decided easily in case the output signal is quantized. Furthermore, the heat rays delivered from the source 4 can be virtually eliminated.
