Abstract

PURPOSE: To cheaply prevent the elution of mercury from soil polluted by mercury due to water over a long term by blending a sulfur-contg. compound and iron chloride to prepare a chemical agent for preventing the elution of mercury.
CONSTITUTION: A sulfur-contg. compound such as Na2S or NaHSO3 and iron chloride such as ferrous chloride or ferric chloride are blended to prepare a chemical agent for preventing the elution of mercury from soil polluted by mercury. When mercury in soil is converted into slightly water soluble compounds such as HgS and HgSO3, the iron chloride prevents the formation a chelate compound by the reaction of humic acid in the soil and mercury. Accordingly, the elution of mercury due to water can be prevented simply and economically over a long term.
