Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a benzamide useful as a neuroleptic agent, an antiemetic agent, a preventive for naupathia, etc., easily, in high yield, by reacting the corresponding benzdiamide with a hypohalogenite.
CONSTITUTION: A 2-alkoxy-5-halo-1-N-( tertiary aminoalkyl )-4-benzdicarboxylic amide of formula I (A, R1 and R2 are alkyl; W is alkylene; X is halogen) is reacted with a hypohalogenite to obtain the 2-alkoxy-4-amino-5-halo-1-N-(tertiary aminoalkyl)benzamide of formula II. The conversion of the 4-position acid amide to amine is carried out by using an aqueous solution of a hypohalogenite, e.g. a hypochlorite, preferably first at -5W0°C and then at 40W80°C.
